Issue 1: Letter from the Editors

Elena Williams and Anusha Kothari

Dear Readers,

We join you reporting live on the ground today — from our bedrooms in a tiny Zoom box.

As student journalists, we are keenly aware that our roles in the community have changed drastically from last year. Campus news is no longer campus news.

But Lynbrook is still a school community, with thousands of students and staff who each have a story that deserves to be covered. Things happen every day that dramatically impact the lives of Viking students — and they can be found in News. Student voices continue to call for change — and you can hear them in our Opinion section. We are still bringing the faces of Lynbrook to light in Features, delving into important subjects in In Depth, and covering socially distanced athletics in Sports. You can still stay virtually connected to student life through photos, videos and multimedia in our Web section.

Today, take a sneak peek at our first issue with our newsletter. From a brand-new literature curriculum to Lynbrook students working through the pandemic, we’ve featured some interesting stories from all of our sections. To receive the newsletter in your personal inbox every month, subscribe for free at tinyurl.com/epicsubscriptions.

If you missed our coverage of the FUHSD Board’s controversial deliberation on Student Resource Officers, the announcement that school would remain remote for first semester, or the social media takeover by Ms. Harlin, be sure to follow our Instagram (@lhs.epic) and Facebook (the Epic) for breaking news and fun features. Never want to miss a Lynbrook update? Download the Student News Source app and look up the Epic for instant access and notifications for breaking news.

the Epic is the voice of the community, and you are the community. No matter how far from campus you may be, we will always be here to keep you close to your fellow Vikings. This is your publication as much as it is ours, so join us.

Together, let’s take on 2020, and the challenges that lay beyond.

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay six feet apart.

Warmly,

Elena Williams and Anusha Kothari
