On Thursday, the quad was awash in a sea of red, with students cheering in anticipation of the seniors’ grand finale that capped off the Homecoming skits with the theme “Avengers: Endgame.” The cheering was quickly replaced by shouts of disapproval as Thanos of Wilcox High School enters the stage, revealing his desire to ruin Homecoming. Three vital stones, a reference to the Infinity Stones, are missing from Lynbrook’s headquarters: the Oceanic Stone, the Fantasy Stone and the Battle Stone.
The eight Avengers split up and travel back in time to three familiar worlds: their freshmen theme of “Atlantis,” sophomore theme of “Wonderland” and junior theme of “Squid Games.” While the teams sent to Atlantis and Wonderland return empty-handed, the heroes Nebula, played by Joyce Cheung and voiced by Abigail Chen, and Lynbrooker, played by Ashwath Anoop and voiced by Isaiah Sit, successfully retrieve the Battle Stone in Squid Game.
Intricate dances featured popular music, including “NOKIA” by Drake in the boys dance, “All The Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and “SZA” in the co-ed dance and “Like JENNIE” by Jennie Kim in the girls dance. Following the elaborate performances, a shocking traitorous act was revealed: Lynbrooker is from Wilcox High School. Despite this setback, the Avengers defeat Thanos and the ex-Lynbrooker in a final fight, retrieving all three Infinity Stones.
The seniors concluded their skit with their class dance to “Tongue Tied” by Grouplove. Finally, they recited a poem dedicated to each class. To the freshmen, they offered advice to enjoy their first year; to the sophomores, a reminder not to rush through high school and encouragement to explore new paths that interest them; to the juniors, luck for their upcoming exams and college applications and to the staff, gratitude for the support they received throughout their four years at Lynbrook.
“It was fulfilling to be part of the skit for one last time,” Chen said. “It’s definitely bittersweet. You’re never going to experience the same hype again.”
