During Friday’s Homecoming rally, ASB Spirit led students on a skit traversing the four Lands of Legends, closing off the annual week of festivities.
To save Homecoming and prevent the villain Thanos from snapping away half the student population, ASB Spirit embarked on a journey to search for the pistol cup in “Radiator Springs,” asgardian steel in “Asgard,” the trident in “Olympus” and the vibranium shield in “Avengers: Endgame.”
Early in their journey, a sphinx blocked their path. To defeat it, representatives from each class competed in trivia questions by diving for Thor’s hammer. Traveling to Olympus, ASB Spirit sent students and advisers from each class to compete in tug-of-war to disperse the battles around them. Performances from Ravens, Valkyries and fall sports teams interspersed the skit. Crowds banged their thundersticks, hyping up each group as they swept across the gym floor. To the audience’s delight, the football team also joined the cheer team in a dance.
“Everyone was so spirited — I could tell the audience enjoyed our performance because their energy and cheering was so loud,” freshman and JV cheer captain Lea Chae said.
In a shocking turn, senior and ASB Spirit commissioner Lex Huang was revealed to be Thanos. To defeat him, a final game commenced: students worked together to pass a giant inflatable ball across the gym. With support from commissioners junior Rohin Samaroy and senior Tanush Agrawal, Thanos was brought down, and Huang snapped awake from his evil side. Victor the Viking then appeared for a successful Homecoming proposal to Vicky the Viking. The two skipped out of the gym hand-in-hand.
Viking Vocalists performed the alma mater, and ASB Spirit concluded by thanking Homecoming judges, class officers, ASB advisers and class advisers.
“After celebrating each other on individual days, I hope the rally shows us coming together in the end to celebrate as one big school,” senior and ASB Spirit commission lead Joyce Cheung said. “I’m incredibly proud of Lynbrook and all the people who helped make it happen.”
