A sea of white greeted the Class of 2028 for their “Asgard”-themed Homecoming performance on Tuesday. In the skit, Norse gods Thor, Volstagg, Hogun, Fandral and Lady Sif seek to restore the Tesseract and the balance of the world. The Tesseract, a magical cube from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was broken by Loki, played by Susan Liu and voiced by Elizabeth Otto, who scatters its shards across Lynbrook to spark disorder.
The journey of Thor, played by Michael Tang and voiced by Evelyn Otto, interweaves figures of antiquity like Zeus, played by Luke Mu and voiced by Vihaan Kandala, with modern elements. Recent hits soundtracked the energetic dance breaks, including “SIRENS” by Travis Scott in the boys dance, “After Hours” by Kehlani in the co-ed dance and “Von dutch” by Charli xcx in the girls dance.
“This year, we tried to be more complicated: we did more sections and transitions were way more elaborate,” sophomore girls dance lead Esther Zhang said. “I was nervous at first, but when I was on the turf, it was fine, because with all the practices that we did, I knew that all the girls knew what they were doing.”
With the help of teacher Jane, played by Betty Huang and voiced by Seraphina Chan, and a torch with spirits of the classes before, the gods find all three fragments of the Tesseract, restoring order to the universe. The skit ended on an uptempo note with a class dance to Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj’s “Beauty and a Beat.”
“I felt that we made great improvements in our skit and all our dances compared to last year, and our class had a ton of participation,” Class of 2028 vice president, skit lead and actor Tang said, “We had over 50 girls dancers and more than 30 participants in skit. It was amazing to see our class come together with so much energy and spirit.”
Following the Class of 2028 and Class of 2027 on Wednesday, one more Homecoming skit remains: the Class of 2026 will perform on Thursday with a mystery theme. The week will conclude with Friday’s rally and JV football game, and Saturday’s dance.
