On April 29, Cardiomed club hosted their annual heart dissection simulation, hosting it in collaboration with Surgery Interest Club this time. The event invited members to partake in the dissection of a sheep heart, where students worked in teams and followed the instructions of a projected video. They collaborated and helped identify key anatomical parts of the heart with guidance from club officers as well. They were given tips and advice by officers from both clubs, along with club advisers and science teachers Isaac Pallone and Jason Lee. This is the first time that Cardiomed has collaborated with another club on their heart dissection.

The Cupertino Whole Foods was shut down due to a rat infestation on April 22. Health concerns were first raised on March 26, which resulted in visits from health inspectors for the past two months. Throughout this time, the deli and bakery section of the store temporarily closed twice in two weeks as a result of the inspections. However, it was shut down again in late April due to a rat infestation, which was followed by a full store shutdown two weeks later. While there is no set timeline for how long the store will be closed, County and health officials, employees and local shoppers hope for a quick return of the store.

The Trump administration has announced that it would freeze over $2 billion in federal funding grants for Harvard University. This decision came in response to several campus protests fighting against policies the Trump Administration tried to enforce, which included policies that would impact Harvard’s academic freedom by eliminating programs such as their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program and threatening the school’s ability to host international students. Alan Garber, the president of Harvard, announced that the school will not surrender its independence to protest against the policies of Trump’s administration.
International
Following the death of Pope Francis, the Catholic Church was quick to find a replacement through Robert Francis Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV. He continues the papacy of Pope Francis, who, before him, was the first Pope from the American continents, additionally known for his preaching of peace and unity. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Pope Leo XIV is the first one born and raised in the U.S. Pope Leo XIV is also the first pope from the Augustinian order, a religious community inspired by Saint Augustine’s teachings. The Pope’s background may help pave the way for new and diverse sets of rules, as well as how he may go about his papacy.
