Under the warm glow of the theater, the stage was adorned with marigold garlands, traditional brocades and candles, all flourished with music and dancing during Sanskriti. The annual event was hosted by the American Indo Student Association on Friday, Dec. 6, featuring students from across FUHSD who showcased classical South Indian art forms.
The first half of the event featured traditional Indian music, including sophomore Alpana Durbha’s heartfelt carnatic violin performance and freshman Kavin Siva’s piece on the veena, a traditional stringed instrument. In addition, songs were sung in a variety of styles, spanning from Hindustani classical singing to Carnatic classical singing.
Traditional dances followed the music performances, brightening the stage with each students’ vivid expressions and sharp movements. Two types of classical dance were displayed: Bharatanatyam, which is more slow and precise, and Kathak, which highlights fluidity.
“Sanskriti was a beautiful showcase of the arts,” freshman Shweta Bala said. “I was honored to sing in Sanskriti, and I was able to learn more about different artists while sharing my passion.”
