Competition and camaraderie abounded over the course of Lynbrook’s first-ever Underclassmen Showdown this week. Racing to rack up points through activities throughout the week, freshmen and sophomores showcased their class spirit, culminating in an electrifying rally on Friday, Feb.16.
The week kicked off with two days of contrasting outfit themes. The freshmen dressed in monochrome attire and the sophomores dressed in multicolored garb on Monday. On Tuesday, the freshmen wore flannel, overalls and other rural-themed clothing — a sharp contrast to the urban pieces, such as blazers and dress shirts, the sophomores sported.
Wednesday saw both classes competing to write the most romantic notes for Valentine’s Day on paper hearts. On Thursday, underclassmen were seen traversing campus to complete various tasks outlined on QR codes throughout the school, such as recording informal music videos with friends to catchy songs like “Love Is an Open Door” from Frozen.
“The highlights of this week were seeing people have class spirit and dress up,” Class of 2027 Vice President and freshman Isabella Chiu said.
The final face-off between the classes came in the form of Friday’s rally during lunch. The two classes clashed in a variety of games — a tug-of-war battle, musical chairs and a round of Continue the Song — with the Class of 2026 ultimately emerging victorious.
“It was really fun,” sophomore Dave Elango said. “It definitely helped the two classes bond.”
