From the woosh of students to roaring beats of thundersticks, spirited Lynbrook students gathered at the gym for the Welcome Back Rally on Friday, Sept. 1, representing the air nomads, the Earth kingdom, the water tribes and the fire nation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.”
Varsity cheer kicked off the rally to a strong start with elaborate formations and stunts, which were followed by performances featuring cross country, girls golf, breakdance club, girls water polo, Ravens, girls tennis and Valkyries. Games involving volunteer participants from each grade were also sprinkled throughout the rally.
ASB Recognition presented awards to dedicated students at rally set-up and to literature teacher Vanessa Otto for her spirited attire all week. Seniors Mina Chiang and Rutvi Pota wrapped up the first rally of the year with a duet rendition of the alma mater.
“I had a really great time at this rally,” junior vice president Arnav Singhal said. “I was happy to see so many kids participating throughout the classes, and I think it was a fun welcome for the freshmen.”
