Aneesha Jobi

Whether she’s choreographing a dance for Lynbrook Jalwa or hyping up the crowd as an ASB Spirit Commissioner, junior Aneesha Jobi always aims to radiate positive energy and friendliness.

Jobi began exploring dance almost 13 years ago, when her parents noticed her affinity for it and put her in ballet classes. Six months later, she realized that she wasn’t graceful enough for ballet, so she started experimenting with hip hop and fell in love with it.

As a freshman, Jobi joined Lynbrook Jalwa because she was interested in the fusion between hip hop and Bollywood dance. After two years on the team, she became the co-captain, managing a team of around 20 people and choreographing all the dances.

“I like the community that it creates because there’s lots of different teams like this all over the Bay Area, and they all meet together for different showcases,” Jobi said. “You get to meet a lot of people who have the same interests as you and are just doing it for fun.”

According to Jobi, the highlight of her high school career was being an ASB Spirit Commissioner. As the only junior on the commission, she felt that her role was especially meaningful not only because it suited her personality, but also because of all the hard work and dedication she put into the events.

“I feel like this year was super special, and the dynamic between me, Demir, Archana and Anton has been so good that I think I’ll be trying to replicate it next year,” Jobi said. “I’m just really thankful for the experience, and leadership as a whole has really defined me this year.”

Although Jobi will not be participating in ASB next year, she plans to expand her leadership role beyond Lynbrook. In the future, she hopes to pursue public health to make an impact on her community.

“I have a lot of leadership roles that I’ve done, but I want to merge that with medicine or biology — things that I’m interested in, and I feel like public health is a really good merge of those two fields,” Jobi said.

More importantly, Jobi wants to build sincere relationships with peers at Lynbrook and beyond.

“When they leave this school, people can remember me as somebody who was nice to them the first time I ever talked to them,” Jobi said. “I want them to know me as someone who was welcoming to them, rather than someone who ignored them or was rude.”
