Nimay Shankar

Sophomore Nimay Shankar began learning to play the piano from an early age, but he only discovered his passion for music when he began experimenting with the styles of music he played in middle school.

Shankar was in his middle school band when he began learning to play other instruments like percussion, which included many smaller instruments ranging from the snare drum to the cowbell, and dabbled in playing the cello, clarinet and saxophone. Now, he plays percussion in Lynbrook’s orchestra and the snare drum for marching band during the fall sports season. He plans to continue both in the 2022-23 school year.

“I think music is a great way to connect people together,” Shankar said. “Even if two people don’t know each other, if you both know how to play music, and you sit down behind your instruments and jam, it’s almost like you know each other.”
