Q: What’s the most difficult part about playing 2 sports in 1 season? Does it affect your performance?

A: The most difficult part is trying to balance both sports along with schoolwork and having to worry about going from one sport to the next.

For me, softball and Winterguard are completely different. If I do really poorly with one, I try really hard to do well in the other to make up for it.

Q: Why did you decide to pursue softball and winterguard?

A: I’ve been playing softball since I was 6 years old. I feel like if I didn’t play softball, that’d be weird because it’s a really big part of my life now. I also play outside school on a travel team. However, I was a part of Colorguard for the fall season, and I thought I it was really fun and I was excited for the next season.

My favorite part of Winterguard is the people because we’re all really close and we’re a family. It’s exciting to perform because it’s really fun to be able to show something and perform with my team.

Softball is really fun because it’s really fast-paced and it’s just a cool sport since there’s a lot of fun aspects: you get to swing a bat, throw the ball and hit the ball. So there’s not just one specific role.

Q: What role does your family play?

A: My family is really supportive of both sports. My brother, who’s in college, was also in marching band, so he’s super supportive of Winterguard. He also played baseball, so he always helps me stay focused when we practice together. Playing these sports helps us bond because we have something to talk about.

Q: What expectations do coaches have of you?

A: For color guard, the coaches have done drum corps, and they’re really good, which makes them intimidating because they expect a lot from us. But that pushes us to be even better. The coaches for softball expect more from me because I’m a freshman on Varsity. They purposely try to challenge me more than anyone else, which gets a little frustrating, but I know that it’s for the best.
