Kate Lee
Introduced to Lynbrook’s Engage program by a friend, junior Kate Lee has found tutoring underclassmen to be a remarkably meaningful and impactful experience. Having struggled with the transition between middle school and high school herself, Lee hopes to support underclassmen that are facing the same academic challenges.
“Being able to support the incoming freshmen who struggled with the transition and to hold their hand through that is very important, because I would have wanted that same support,” Lee said.
As a swim teacher, Lee was inspired to share her passion for swimming with young children in her community, and she hopes to similarly support underclassmen at Lynbrook. Through Engage, Lee helps students grasp more difficult concepts in their schoolwork. Focusing primarily on Algebra I and Chemistry, she adapts her teaching style to different students’ mentalities and abilities. Lee must explore a variety of ways to explain concepts to students, a challenge that drives her to become a better mentor.
Lee is looking forward to participating as an Engage tutor next year, and in the future, she hopes to find a profession in which she can work with and have a positive impact on others.
“With tutoring, you get to know others and understand what they’re going through,” Lee said. “The connections and friendships that you make are so valuable.”
