Ashley Huang

From playing violin in a youth orchestra to choreographing class dances, freshman Ashley Huang has always been involved in the performing arts. Huang started taking dance and violin classes at a very young age, and her passion for both activities only grew as she discovered the connection between them.

“They really help each other since you’re able to communicate your feelings through both violin and dance and not have to do it through words,” Huang said. “You can convey things that words cannot tell and let the audience interpret what you want to convey.”

Depending on the week, Huang spends 10 to 14 hours practicing at her dance studio, Silicon Valley Dance Academy. While she’s received many prizes and awards, the aspect of dance Huang finds the most rewarding is simply performing her best on stage.

“When you get to show how much you’ve improved, even with basic techniques like turns or pirouettes, it’s really rewarding,” Huang said.

In addition, Huang serves as a choreographer for the class of 2025, playing an essential role in Homecoming and rallies. She especially enjoys meeting dancers of different levels and backgrounds and building upon their skills to teach them new choreography.

“My favorite memories were probably from Girls Dance for Homecoming because we were a really tight-knit group, and we’ve shared a lot of fun and embarrassing memories together,” Huang said.

Besides dance, Huang is also skilled in violin. At Lynbrook, she plays the violin in chamber orchestra, and outside of school, she is part of the Golden State Youth Orchestra senior symphony. She will be going on tour this summer to Prague and Austria, and she’s excited to return as a soloist next year.

In the future, Huang aspires to make an impact on the community through both violin and dance.

“I hope to help the community by raising money, doing benefit concerts, or just spreading the love for performing arts in general,” Huang said.
