Evan Taylor

Junior Evan Taylor has always enjoyed playing sports, which led him to join his school’s track and field team in sixth grade. Throughout Taylor’s middle school career, he gradually ramped up his involvement in the sport: beginning with triple jump in sixth grade, then competing in long jump, triple jump, high jump and hurdles in seventh and eighth grade.

“I wanted to find something I could become really good at,” Taylor said. “I think when I was younger, there were a lot of things I was decent at, but nothing that I wanted to dedicate myself to.”

Upon entering high school, Taylor found that the environment and coaching for track and field was far superior to his middle school experience — giving him the motivation he needed to improve.

Despite his ambition, Taylor encountered various challenges throughout his high school track and field career. In his freshman year, Taylor suffered a minor back injury. In his sophomore year, a hip injury left him out for half the season.

Taylor has garnered numerous awards and accolades throughout his high school track experience. As a freshman, he won his first medal from the annual Rust Buster Invitational and obtained another medal in his sophomore year for placing top six in hurdles. In the 100-meter dash, he got a staggeringly fast time of 10.9 seconds — being the third person in Lynbrook’s track and field history to obtain a time under 11 seconds. Taylor came home from the 2021-22 track season weighed down with 15 medals in total.

Taylor hopes to continue improving and plans to participate in track during his senior year. He also hopes to carry his skills into college and beyond.

“I would like to shout out to my coaches and my teammates, especially Charlie —  he’s our captain and really motivates us, “ Taylor said.
