Avocado moisturizing mask
We have all jumped on the avocado bandwagon at some point, whether it was eating avocado toast 24/7 or watching fitness influencers explain how many nutrients and fats are packed into this one tasty fruit. But did you know that directly smearing it on your face (or even hair) has numerous benefits too? Avocados contain vitamins A and E and can penetrate below the surface of the skin to fully hydrate all your pores. So, I decided to try an avocado face mask recipe! “Marie Claire” magazine advertises this recipe as moisturizing and providing a clear and glowing complexion. Though skeptical at first, I believe it ended up being quite successful.
Recipe and Instructions:
- Wash and clean your face with soap or a cleanser.
- Combine one-quarter ripe avocado, 1 tablespoon rolled oats and 1 tablespoon raw honey and mash them together.
- Apply mixture to face and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
- Rinse off with water.
Creation process:
Since this was the first recipe I attempted, I had no idea what to expect. The blend appeared thick, gloopy and not very attractive. Despite its questionable appearance, before trying it on my face, I tasted some of it, and it was actually very delicious! Yet another great benefit of homemade masks.
In the video below, I visibly grimace as I initially dip my fingers in and apply it to my face. However, as I applied more, the avocado felt smooth and satisfying on my face, and surprisingly, it all remained attached to my face. As I did not want to waste the extra avocado, I applied some on my legs as well. Unfortunately, I did not discern any visible difference in the dryness of my legs.
Review:
My face felt smooth and moisturized afterward, though it was slightly difficult to wash off the concoction on my face. I will consider trying it again, except with crushed oats which would make the mixture less chunky. The avocado and honey together had a velvety texture, and the oats were the only ingredient that resulted in the lumpy consistency. Comparatively, there is actually little difference between this avocado mask and the typical hydrating store-bought mask. I definitely recommend you give it a try!
